It’s here! The 2016 Saratoga Showcase of Homes starts Sept. 17!
by Janet Longe, of 23rd [and Fourth]
Stepping into a beautiful home is always a great idea (in fact, I highly recommend it). Getting to see the construction and design choices that were made up close, deciding what you like, and perhaps like a little less, and then taking inspiration for yourself and your home? What’s not to love?
That’s what’s so special about the Saratoga Showcase of Homes—you don’t even have to wait for a holiday invitation before stepping foot inside.
I’m thrilled to serve as one of the judges for this year’s showcase, sponsored by the Saratoga Builder’s Association, as it’s a great opportunity for me to reconnect with other professionals working in the home and design industries locally. Besides the builders themselves, there are landscapers, kitchen and bath designers and interior designers all collaborating on the same space. Plus, I get to tour 20 new homes, from 16 different builders!
Although it makes for a long day, it’s always fun to see what area builders are doing, and what techniques they’re using to up the luxury factor even further. In some cases, the homes are already sold, so the designer will have had to work the homeowners’ possessions into the space, while keeping their design sense in mind. I know I’m not alone in saying this, but I especially look forward to viewing the kitchens and master baths, which rarely seem to disappoint.
Each judge is asked to rate a specific industry, so I’ll be judging the interiors, something I know a thing or two about. The 20 homes are broken into four categories—classic home, townhome, executive home and luxury home—with classification determined by home value. The showcase runs for three consecutive weekends, starting Sept. 17.
It’s a great way to kick off the fall season, and something my daughter, Jamie, and I do together every year.
We hope you’ll join us!
